WHAT IS YOUNG ICONS?

Young Icons is a 501(c)(3) non-profit empowering Charlotte’s youth through music and tech training. At camp, we introduce teenagers to real recording studio environments for an immersive 1 week songwriting course, and guide them through the process of writing and recording their own music from start to finish.

WHERE IS CAMP LOCATED?

Our lectures and workshops are held in our event space at 3711 Latrobe Dr., Charlotte, NC 28211.

What Is THE CAMP ENVIRONMENT LIKE?

Currently, each session of our camp is limited to 25 campers. Because of this, not only do our campers get a lot of quality one on one time with our instructors - they’re also able to connect more with their peers. We are proud to foster a strong and supportive creative environment, and have a ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY when it comes to bullying.

IS THIS CAMP TOO ADVANCED FOR SOMEONE WHO HAS NEVER BEEN IN THE STUDIO?

No prerequisite knowledge is required to have an amazing time at camp, and be featured on a radio-ready record after 3 weeks! Each camper contributes collectively to their group’s song with guidance from our instructors. Once in the studio, our engineers help to record and coach their performances. Additionally, engineers are able to teach creative recording techniques such as how to stack backing vocals, recording “adlibs”, and much more. All we ask is that campers come with a positive attitude, and ready to have a great time!

What subjects are covered?

We cover songwriting through a series of lectures and hands on workshops. Our instructors cover a variety of topics including but not limited to mindset, industry history and artist spotlights, vocal technique, lyric writing and rhyme schemes, as well as offer personal testimonies on their journeys as creative professionals.
